Data Collection
Proper data collection is one of the least understood and one of the most important steps in problem solving. A critical step in the Measure Phase is to collect proper data.
Why do we collect data? To identify the best course of action - the result of the data collection and analysis must tell us which course of action to take.
Cause - Effect 因果分析
Use Cause and Effect Diagram to Single Out Variation Sources within the “5M’s + E”
Fishbone Diagram - traditional approach to brainstorming and diagramming cause-effect relationships. Good tool when there is one primary effect being analyzed.
鱼骨图:脑力激荡法和原因-结果关系图的传统工具。当有一个主要后果需要分析时是很好的工具。
2. Cause-Effect Matrix - a diagram in table form showing the direct relationships between outputs (Y’s) and inputs (X’s)
因果矩阵:显示输出Y和输入X之间关系的表格图。
Sampling Risks
H0 : = some value
H1 : some value
P-Value
This is the probability that a value as extreme as x (i.e. x) is observed,
given that H0 is true. We reject H0 if the obtained P-Value is less than .
Six Sigma - Improve
A technique to generate a large number of ideas or possibilities in a relatively short time frame.
Agree on and write down the problem statement
Allow each team member to contribute – No Criticism!
In rotation, or free flow
List all ideas on Flipchart or use Post-It notes
Continue until ideas are exhausted
Review list for clarity/duplicates
Use as input for next step in Cause and Effect Process

DFError = DFTotal – DFFactor
= (N – 1) – (k – 1) = N – k
2) SSTotal = SSFactor + SSError
